Traveling Trunks
Traveling Trunks are Here!
These rolling suitcases packed full of hands-on resources are available to teachers, youth group leaders, homeschool teachers, and other residents of San Saba County who are looking for a fun and educational way to immerse students in a moment in history and science. The trunks include period replicas and artifacts, books, maps, posters, music, DVDs, games, and a Teacher-Docent Guide with instructional tools, such as primary sources, grading rubrics, and lesson plans. With the collaboration of the Tocker Foundation of Austin, the Friends of the Rylander Memorial Library, and the San Saba County Historical Museum, you have the wonderful opportunity to check out the following Traveling Trunks from the Library using your library card. Elementary – High School Trunks: Each trunk contains TEKS, activity and lesson ideas for teachers that can be made relevant for all levels.

Schedule a Trunk PresentationTo schedule a trunk presentation for your club, group, organization or classroom, please contact Mikie Bishop at dbishop@centex.net or Lynn Blankenship at jerlyn@centex.net. Procedure to Checkout1. Reservations/Questions: Trunks are available on a first come-first serve basis, and some trunk calendars fill up quickly. We recommend making your reservation early. To make a reservation or to ask questions, email the Library at rylander@co.san-saba.tx.us or call 325-372-3079. A trunk can be checked out for two to three weeks using your card. If the trunk meets the needs of other teachers at your school, please share rather than having to check out again. The teacher checking out the trunk is responsible for the contents and its gentle handling, bearing the responsibility for damaged and/or missing items. However, we do want the students to have a great hands-on experience with the contents. There is a list in each trunk of its’ contents. We encourage you to check the trunk before you take it to your school and before you return it to the Library. The teacher is responsible for picking up the trunk and returning it. Some trunks weigh approximately 75 lbs. They do have wheels and a pull strap or handle. However, you must be able to lift it into and out of your vehicle. The approximate dimensions are 36” L x 19” W x 18” H. The trunks are returned to the circulation desk inside the front door of the Library. We encourage you to be prepared to use the trunk as soon as you check it out so that you get the full benefit of having the trunk before it is due back to the Library. |
